Chip Haskell | Creative Director/Vice President
In spite of his lofty title, Chip has stuck to his creative roots–always willing to get his hands dirty. Consequentially, Crowell has had to invest in higher quality soap. Chip’s motto, “Stalk mediocrity,” not only illuminates his unusual style, but also inspires thoughts of restraining orders. As a master strategist, copywriter, and owner of several pairs of cowboy boots, Chip learned early on that you get out what you put in, and he acted accordingly. Well, we’re not sure what he’s been putting in all these years, but the only things coming out are award-winning campaigns.
Chris Wells | Associate Creative Director/Art Director
If you suddenly have to fight a bear and simultaneously come up with a strategically sound design concept, you’d be a lot less worried about your pants if you had Chris on your side. With nine years in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and nearly twice that in advertising, Chris can come up with a beautiful, strategic concept before that bear taps out from his chokehold. A gifted illustrator and passionate leader, Chris can tackle anything and come out on top, but for the sake of the local wildlife, let’s hope he sticks to advertising.
Malena Johnson | Director of Account Services
Not one to drop names, Malena has overseen such worldwide brands as Microsoft, Intel, and Edward Jones. Master of all and amateur of none, her impressive resume is currently pending approval from the Guinness Book of World Records (not to be confused with Guinness Brewery’s version of the book, which contains not records, but 48 ounces of stout). With experience as a marketing director, account supervisor, and account executive, Malena has a very real chance to upset the previous record holder: no one. Luckily, Malena doesn’t need the fame and fortune of a World Record Holder; she works at Crowell.
Rebecca Merrill | Traffic Manager/Account Coordinator
Originally hired as an athletic trainer to make sure Crowell didn’t suffer growing pains, Rebecca has since grown into the all-encompassing position of traffic manager. Stalking, err, tracking every project from start to finish, Rebecca acts as the liaison between all of our departments, keeping everyone organized, on time, and scared of her presence. With the wisdom of an ancient kung fu master and not as much of the beard, Rebecca’s traffic system has gathered all corners of Crowell into an efficient, tight-knit force–like samurai without the hara-kiri.
Darrell Smith | Copywriter
Considered an expert communicator by peers and awards judges alike, Darrell’s skills were recently put to the ultimate test. He got married. As is usual with Darrell, his uncanny abilities to render even the most complex messages into simple, thought-provoking ideas came to the rescue. His wife has asked him to take down the “You’re the best” billboard from their front yard, though. Experienced in virtually every type of marketing medium and with a long, eclectic list of clients to his name, Darrell’s writing is simultaneously strategic, scintillating, and alliterative.
Melanie Mulvey | Media Director
After placing media in such diverse markets as Los Angeles, California and Hood River, Oregon, Melanie finally found the right balance of pollution and mountains here in Salt Lake City. As a respected media negotiator for the past 11 years, Melanie has planned and purchased all types of media for all types of clients, but has yet to purchase all types of clients (you should see her collection!). Even with dozens of former clients caged in her basement, Melanie is a beloved and frighteningly effective member of the Crowell family.
Megan Griffin | Media Buyer
It’s a thorny business, media, but with four years at KTVX-ABC and the same at Crowell, Megan has the enviable advantage of having seen things from both sides of the fence. Her path to Crowell exposed her to every corner of media buying under the sun, giving her unique insights into the media environment, as well as some funky tan lines. In her own words, “Media planning is like a jungle, except with a lot more monkeys.” Well put, Megan, but we could do without all the machete waving.
David Milton Johnson | Graphic Designer
Like Cher and RuPaul, this classically trained illustrator and graphic designer goes only by one name—“Milt.” Raised by humans amongst the red rocks of southern Utah, Milt is the youngest of eight and is understandably difficult to bully. After two years in Thailand (he’s now fluent in their language and their cooking) and graduating from good ol’ Weber State University, Milt was finally ready to work for the best. But first, he worked for some other companies in and around Salt Lake City. Talented and collaborative, the only thing mean about Milt is his meatloaf recipe.
Dallas Browning | Director of Web Development
Even with his many years spent in the company of computers, Dallas still believes in the goodness of the human soul. Unfortunately, his own soul has long since been sold to Google—apparently in return for a ‘Google Dallas’ program much like ‘Google Earth’, except that it uses his head. That’s how big his brain is, and Google isn’t the only one that thinks so. Dallas last worked in developing web applications for a fortune 500 company, managing web development for local and national brands, and generally not fitting through doorways (the brain, remember?).
Scott Breen | Web Developer
A self-taught web developer, Chris never stops learning. Indeed, in addition to his three years of work experience and year-long web apprenticeship, he is currently earning his degrees in ISS and CNS from ITT Tech. Scott is fluent in PHP, SQL, HTML, VB.NET, American English, and he dabbles in CSS and JavaScript. Web developing isn’t the only extreme sport Scott enjoys, though. He also surfs, wakeboards, and lives in Holladay, Utah. With a passion for web development and the knowledge and expertise to back it up, Chris is the perfect addition to Crowell’s growing web team.
Sean Smith | Graphic Designer
What can you say about a man like Sean? Judging by the last sentence, he's a man. Named Sean. Oh, I'm now being told he is more than JUST a man. He’s also a blossoming designer, a talented cartoonist and illustrator, and the proud owner of an epileptic labrador. Judging from that sordid list of qualifications, it’s a good thing Sean decided to work for Crowell and not his second choice, the United States Marine Corps. Not with eyes that bloodshot, Sean.
Paul Larsen | Online Media Coordinator
As an eagle scout, Paul has always been something of an over-achiever. He didn't HAVE to earn that merit badge for hair-braiding, but he did anyways. Just because he could. Which is probably the same reason he got into online media. Though, when pressed, Paul admits that he loves the pay-per-click world because it allows him to fulfill his childhood dream of meticulously tracking every minute detail of peoples' actions. Which is great for us, but bad for his young daughter, who has yet to figure out that teddy bears aren't supposed to have lenses and little red lights that glow all night long.
Cher Callaway | Controller
Like a shepherd tending her flock, Cher watches over Crowell, keeping its business affairs and operations moving smoothly. Luckily she’s not aware of this simile and hasn’t tried to cut off the employees’ hair and sell it. Entering her 26th year in the agency side of the business, Cher’s bag of tricks includes human resources, financial planning, accounts payable, and keeping everyone from grazing too much in the fertile fields of Crowell’s kitchen.
Brad Gale | Senior Account Supervisor
Home grown and raised, though not home schooled (thanks, U of U!), Brad is the quintessential Salt Lake City kid; he skis, rafts, and has an irreconcilable fear of cats in human clothing. Guess who’s not invited to Miss Fuzzy-Bottom’s 13th birthday costume-party, Brad? Yeah, that’s right, try and make up for it with your years of experience at Publicis and your high-profile work with T-Mobile, HP, and Citi Bank. And a superbowl commercial for HomeAway.com? Okay, we forgive you. But not Miss Fuzzy-Bottom. She never forgets.
Tamara Davies | Account Coordinator
Tamara is yet another lucky soul we plucked from the beyond, having first established herself in broadcast media as an award-winning news producer at one of Salt Lake City’s top-ranked TV stations before coming to Crowell. With over 6 years of experience in project management, editing, and production, plus a double-major in Electronic Media and Political Science, Tamara certainly brings a lot to our proverbial table. Long and hard was the journey up into the light of advertising, but no one ever said becoming an account coordinator was easy, did they? They did? Well that's just counterproductive.
Travis Gray | Art Director
If Father Christmas were a real person, Travis would be him. A talented graphic designer, art director, cartoonist, and toy collector, Travis took the advice of Peter Pan quite literally. But don’t let his youthful exuberance fool you; Travis is an 11-year veteran with experience in Colorado and the Midwest, where he honed his design skills in web & interactive, print, and identity, and even won a prestigious spot in “Logo Lounge 3”, a collection of the best logos from around the world.
Andrew J. Scarcella | Copywriter
Born in a rural New England castle, Andrew is now living outside his comfort zone of artisan cheeses and dry-land polo, finding that the further west he goes, the slower people walk. Like most writers of prodigious skill, he believes his words are paradoxically brilliant and unacceptable. With creative skill honed on the streets of Chicago (in portfolio school and while freelancing) and literary training at Penn State, Andrew has been "been around." Perhaps that’s why he looks 10 years older than he actually is.
Tracy Crowell | President
Looking back 21 years after Crowell’s humble beginnings, one may ask, “Just how did Tracy do it?” While there are many answers, most reference a “vision quest” and “three lovely sand-maidens.” As Tracy would say, “Weren’t no thang, baby.” Of course, he’s not always doing his spot-on impersonation of Shaft; mostly he’s carefully cultivating the talent pool at Crowell and making our clients feel like family. Although Tracy has worked hard for his success, he’s no workaholic. As he would put it, “That’s what co-workers are for.”
Rhonda Greenwood | Public Relations Director
Named Utah’s “Best PR Director Under 50 Inches,” Rhonda is more than just a pretty face; she’s also a whole human being. Smart and connected, Rhonda is best known for her work with Harmons, turning their spokespersons, Bob and Randy Harmon, into the living icons of their brand. With over 20 years in an industry that chews most people up and spits them out after only half of that, it’s not just her uncanny ability to create awareness through strategic thinking that’s feared, but also her teeth.
Mike Loveridge | Online Media Manager
After surviving a B.S. in Business Management from UVU, an MBA from The University of Utah, a few years in internet marketing, and what must surely feel like a lifetime of fatherhood (3 kids will do that to you), there's nothing Mike can't do. Except maybe take a compliment. Come on Loveridge, when someone tells you that your passion for campaign optimization through continuous analysis and testing is revolutionizing our digital media performance, Mike Loveridge just say "thanks."
Anna West | PR Account Supervisor
Reputed as the safest person at Crowell, Anna has gone a record 475 days without a pencil sharpening injury. That’s nothing compared to her nearly 10 years of experience in local and national media coverage, event planning, grassroots efforts, and exaggerating her safety records. Her patented visual sense (#21049-1998) and unquenchable creativity make sure that the story isn’t just seen and heard, but felt as well. As a professional belly dancer (no joke here, folks), Anna really knows how to reach the hip market (here it is).
Steve Armstrong | Senior Web Developer
The only person in the world claiming to be a one-man multimedia experience, Mr. Armstrong’s decade-long pursuit includes print, video, and web projects. Also a budding talent behind the camera, Steve’s sole screen credit to date, as a narrator for the self-described “soft-core civil war documentary”, reveals the emotional depth behind his machine-like programming precision. A student of psychology and father of four, Steve is used to dealing with raving lunatics. Naturally, he feels right at home inside Crowell’s padded walls.
Marshall Hartley | PR Account Coordinator
The first thing you need to know about Marshall is that his middle name is Champ. Marshall Champ Hartley. We’d have hired him based on that fact alone, but then we’d have been discounting his Mass Comm degree from the U of U, his time served as president of the Salt Lake City PR Student Society, and his pure, incandescent ability to create press for his clients. But his life isn’t all fun and games. Champ is also an avid soccer player and loving father to his many stuffed animals, none of which is named Champ, Jr. Why not?
Adam T. Bramwell | Account Coordinator
Adam "What-What" Bramwell dedicated his life to fighting the tobacco companies, then he went to recess. But after years of shouting tobacco facts from a street corner in Placeholder, UT, Adam "Oprah" Bramwell decided to join the big leagues, which apparently was us. Following a brief internship, Crowell hired Adam "The Human Bramwell" Bramwell full-time, where he’s logged countless hours traveling across the state talking to countable kids about the dangers of tobacco. (11,000 last year, what?). Pretty impressive, Adam "Smoked Salmon" Bramwell. If that is your real name.
Summer Fredrickson | Account Supervisor
First spreading her wings in the broadcast media field, Summer spent several years as a top-producing radio account executive before tumbling down a rabbit hole. To the magical world of advertising, of course. After several suspicious encounters with a giant caterpillar, she found herself in Salt Lake City. And then suddenly she was here, at Crowell. It's all pretty hazy, but what's important is that Summer brought with her an extensive background in strategic marketing, social networking, account coordination, and event planning. At least we have a good reason for why she's so tall.
